Why Biljana has the power within to change her life – again!
As we kick off the 8-week Power Within member challenge, Billie tells how Step into Life has already helped her recover from being a borderline diabetic. Now, she’s on a mission to achieve new things.
When Biljana Mirceski joined Step into Life Craigieburn in 2014 she was suffering kidney failure, needed daily blood pressure medication and was more than 50 kilos overweight.
As a mother of three, she knew something had to change.
“I found it hard to walk to the letterbox,” Billie recalls. “In July 2014, I had blood tests done and the results showed I was borderline diabetic and deteriorating rapidly.”
Billie says she joined Step into Life on a friend’s recommendation but was hesitant at first. “I knew my fitness level was not good, but I guess everybody has to start somewhere.”
Now 37, and after three years of training, Billie is pleased to report her physical – and mental – health has improved drastically.
Billie’s breakthroughs
After taking blood pressure medication for 11 years, Billie no longer needs it to get through the day. Plus, her new level of fitness has helped with parenthood. “My children have seen a huge improvement in me. I am more positive and optimistic, and my energy levels have increased immensely,” she says.
“My confidence has come back and I'm loving who I am. Mentally I have grown so much – I have learnt that you can achieve anything if you have the right mindset.”
Having the power within
So far Billie has lost more than 50 kilos and she says the key to her success is having the power within to make a change.
“Everything is mind over matter. Your desire to change must overpower your need,” she says.
“Let’s face it, motivation only lasts a short period. Although when you pass the level of motivation, it then becomes habit.”
During her time with Step into Life, Billie’s goals have changed many times. She says, people often ask her: ‘what is your goal weight?’ But she doesn’t have one.
“I have learnt that life is not about kilos. It’s all about how you feel and the mindset you have. If you believe, you can achieve!”
