Morning Hack: The Goldilocks Solution

On those chilly mornings when you’re finding it hard to get out of bed, a great way to get energised is to enjoy a warming breakfast. Nourish yourself with some porridge - it’s a delicious and nutritious way to start the day and will warm you from the inside out; it’s also a good way to keep you feeling satisfied so you don’t indulge too much before lunch.
Keep it simple, or ‘fancy’ it up with some of our favourite variations below
Basic Porridge Recipe
- 160g rolled oats
- 600ml milk, soy or other milk alternative, or water
- Pinch of salt
- Combine oats and liquid in a large saucepan over medium heat
- Add a pinch of salt and stir with a wooden spoon
- Bring to a steady simmer for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring often (the more you stir, the smoother creamier your porridge will be).
(Alternatively mix the oats, liquid and salt together in a large microwave proof bowl and microwave on high for 5 minutes, stirring halfway through – we do think the stove top version is worth the extra dishes though if you have the time!)
Our Favourite Variations
Savoury -add in some fresh herbs like parsley and chives, and mix through some goat’s cheese.
Banana Cinnamon - top with slices of banana (if want to get super fancy – caramelize the banana first in a pan with a touch of butter and a sprinkle of brown sugar), a handful of toasted almonds, and a good sprinkle of cinnamon.
In the raw - stir a raw egg through your cooked porridge. Trust us on this one! It makes the porridge even more creamy, plus it gives it a good kick of protein and omega 3.
Ricotta, Pistachio and Raisin - stir through a drizzle of honey and small handful of raisins. Top with a good spoonful of fresh ricotta and sprinkle of chopped pistachios.
