Now is the best time of year to sign up for a fun and challenging fitness event; not only are we in the midst of run season, but with the cooler weather settling in it's always good to have a goal just ahead of you to keep you motivated and on track with your training!

 

VICTORIA

Puffing Billy's Great Train Race         
1 May 2016

Puffing Billy's Great Train Race is a 13.5km race against the iconic Puffing Billy Train through the Dadenong Ranges starting from Belgrave, Victoria. The first race train will take between 50-60 minutes and the second race train will take between 65-75 minutes.

Go the Extra Mile
7 May 2016

Go the Extra Mile is a fundraising endurance event starting at Jells Park, incorporating the ‘1000 Steps’ and finishing at the luscious Ferny Creek Reserve. Sign up for the traditional 50km team course, or new for 2016 is the addition of shorter distance options including the 7.5km, 15km, 24km or 38km. You can walk less or more on the day if you choose.

Wild One is an Australian made not-for-profit muddy adventure designed to challenge you to your core. Action-packed with 50+ obstacles across 8km at the Peninsula Obstacle Racing Course in Moorooduc, Victoria, it is sure to test your determination and teamwork.

Mother’s Day Classic

The Mother's Day Classic is an annual event across Australia to do something active and fun on Mother's day, while remembering those who have been affected by or who are living with breast cancer and raising money for breast cancer research.

Wings for Life World Run         
8 May 2016

The Wings for Life World Run is a global charity running event around the world, with the The Australian event starting from Patterson Reserve in Hawthorn East. All runners start at the same time with no finish line; when the catcher car overtakes, the runner finishes their race. When they set off (30 minutes after the runners), the catcher cars will do 15km/h. This will increase periodically, at exactly the same time all over the world.

Great Ocean Road Marathon
14 & 15 May 2016

The Great Ocean Road Marathon and Festival of Distance Running features a 60km ultra marathon, 44km Marathon, 23km Half Marathon, 14km run, 6km run and The Kids' 1.5km Gallop.The ultra marathon & full marathon start at Lorne Hotel and finishes at Apollo Bay Hotel. The half marathon starts at Kennett River and finishes at Apollo Bay Hotel. All other event start and finish at Apollo Bay Hotel.

Move in May

Move In May is a fun run and walk at The Tan Track in Melbourne, Victoria to support and celebrate International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). This is an all inclusive fun run with a post event celebration that caters for everyone - rainbow or otherwise. If you want to see equality and inclusion in our society, this is the event for you, and you don't have to run: either walk 4km, or run 4km or 8km. This event is all about fun over competition.

Run the Gap

Run the Gap is a 6km run and walk and 21km half marathon and 12km run at Halls Gap, in the heart of the Grampians National Park in Victoria.
The 6km will follow the walking path from the Parklands to Tandarra Road, picking up the Fyans Creek trail to Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre and return. The 12km continues along the Fyans Creek trail through to Tymna Drive and up to Lake Bellfield (for a lap of the wall) and return.

Huon Hill Trail Run

The Huon Hill Trail Run in Wodonga, Victoria is steep off road challenge with awesome views: over nearly 14km you will experience 590m of elevation. At different points the summit of Huon provides 360 views including a huge panorama of Lake Hume, glimpses of snow peaked alpine ranges and city skylines of both Albury and Wodonga.

The Surf n Turf Obstacle Race is a 5km and 10km obstacle course race in the heart of Newcastle, NSW up the hills of King Edward Park and along the soft sands of Newcastle Beach. There are many obstacles, including cargo nets, shipping containers, walls, balance beams, monkey bars and a log carry.

Ultra Trail Australia UTA951 (Blue Mountains)
12, 13 & 14 May 2016

The UTA951 is part of the Ultra Trail Australia race week; it is a a leg burning, heart pumping time trial up the iconic Furber Steps: 951 stairs, about 220m of elevation gain, 1km in length.

With starts held over a one hour period on Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, the Scenic World UTA951 will have a running leaderboard that will see people heading back to the stairs for multiple cracks at the this lung busting climb! Entry includes a One-way ticket down the Scenic Railway to transport you to the start line at the Scenic Railway lower station.

Byron Bay to Ballina Coastal Charity Walk

The Byron Bay to Ballina Coastal Charity Walk is a 12km, 24km or 37km coastal walk. The walks are an all-terrain challenge across sand, bush track and roads and should not be underestimated by any walker.

Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon

The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon is Australia's largest and most prestigious half marathon. The iconic course takes participants past the beautiful sights of Sydney's harbourside and is open to both individual and team relay entries. Relay teams run legs of 7km and 14km.

Bondi Barefoot Soft Sand Race
22 May 2016

The Bondi Barefoot is a soft sand race on Sydney's Bondi Beach with 4km and 10km running events and the 70m "Barefoot Bolt" knockout event. The Barefoot Bolt is a knock beach sprint over 70 metres. The race is repeated 60 secs after the completion of the previous race. Depending on race competitor numbers, the judges will eliminate the last few runners from each race. It can take several rounds before the winner is declared.

Greenbelt Half Marathon

The Greenbelt Half Marathon, 10km and 5km is in Athelstone, Adelaide, South Australia. There is also a free kids 1km race. It is an established favourite among Adelaide runners (first held in 1980 by Distance Runners Club of SA) and the event is outstanding for its natural beauty.

The Port Pirie Fun Run and Walk is hosted by the Port Pirie Volunteer Branch of Make-A-Wish Australia and includes a 5km and 11km distance.

True Grit
7 & 8 May 2016

True Grit is the first Australian designed military style obstacle course, with courses designed to test your mental resolve and stamina.  The Adelaide event is at Caudo Vineyard in Cadell, with around 30 obstacles over 10km to 12km, which highlights regional natural terrain. The aim is to deliver a truly unique experience to those that dare.

Barossa Marathon Running Festival

XTERRA Auckland Trail Run/Walk

The XTERRA Auckland Trail Run/Walk Series event at Riverhead Forest is one in an annual series organised by TotalSport, every three weeks between May and September. Each event has short (5 to 8km), mid (10 to 14km), long (16 to 20km) and super long (21km+) options.
The series promises to deliver to you stunning course options in equally stunning locations in and around Auckland. Generally locations are within one hour drive of central Auckland. At the end of your jaunt there will always be a sausage sizzling away on the BBQ and a cold Speights with your name on it.
