Easy As Pie: Apple Pie Smoothie

We’re all about wintery apple treats lately! This week, we’re loving this creamy smoothie that’s easy as pie. Enjoy that classic apple pie flavour minus the fuss – and calories! The allspice and cinnamon in this recipe help pack on tonnes of flavour, minus the added sugars. Never had spinach in your smoothie before? No need for alarm – it blends right in (literally), with the taste unnoticeable amongst the rest of the sweet and spicy flavours. The fresh combination of apple and spinach in this smoothie promote great bone health and can help to reduce inflammation, while the healthy fats inside those tasty walnuts will keep you feeling fuller for longer.


2 handfuls spinach
1 apple, cored and chopped
1 date, pitted
1/4 cup walnuts
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup ice


Add all ingredients to blender, and blend until smooth. If using ice, blend all ingredients except ice first, then add ice before blending again. Serve sprinkled with ground cinnamon.

Note: If you don’t have a high-speed blender, then try soaking the walnuts in water for a little while (anywhere between 20 minutes to 3 hours – the longer, the softer!) before you use them. This will soften them right up and result in an even creamier smoothie for you!
